nouvelle vague in hollywood

From Sunday's New York Times:
Nouvelle Vague: Offstage, the Band Plays On
Recording an entire album of cover songs is a risky proposition: it better have a clever angle to avoid getting dismissed as a cheap stunt. Luckily, two French musicians, Marc Collin and Olivier Libaux, have whipped up a covers album with that elusive twist. Their project, Nouvelle Vague, defibrillates British New Wave chestnuts (Modern English's "I Melt With You" for example) by reimagining them as Brazilian bossa nova tunes sung by a rotating crew of female singers, none of whom had ever heard the original songs. The formula was an immediate hit in Europe, and now Nouvelle Vague is finding success in the United States, playing last week for 17,000 ticket-buying fans at the Hollywood Bowl.
