(word) geeking out

I was the editor of my high school newspaper. My biggest typo: a home page headline that read "Congradulations!" I claimed it was a deliberate pun, a play on graduation. It wasn't.

Anyhow, this comment triggered that memory: "pet peeve #3,563: people who write 'congrads.' nobody is graduating anything."
congratulation 1438, from L. congratulationem, from congratulari "wish joy," from com- "together" + gratulari "give thanks, show joy," from gratus "agreeable."
For future geeking out: The Online Etymology Dictionary.

I confess - I was guilty of writing "Congradulations" on cards for a very loooooooong time. It took years for me to figure out that I was misspelling the word.
