Thanks (belatedly!) for the note. We spent my birthday up in the Cascades, where we hiked up to a mountain lake. We saw two guys base-jump from a nearby peak. One waited a very long time before pulling his chute, and landed with an inelegant splash in the lake about 20 feet from where we sat eating lunch. Almost wiped out a couple sitting on a log that jutted out into the lake. He was unhurt, amazingly. I like to think he put on the show just for me.
