I had dinner with her once long ago, when I was in college, and she was speaking on campus. I was one of the lucky 15 students chosen to join a banquet given for her before she spoke. As it turned out, I ended up sitting next to her, so we had a bit of conversation over Cornish hen. I was surprised to find she was a tiny person and strikingly beautiful even sans make up. She said something that night I've always remembered. I commented that she wasn't eating her dinner, and she explained she was too nervous. "I'd think you'd be over that by now," I said. "You never get over it," she said. "You just learn you're not going to die."
